TESTING, ASSESSMENT, EVALUATION

Why and when to test:

To identify the nature of an problem. Many times there is an obvious change in performance, functioning or behavior while other times, there may be subtle changes that are cause for concern. Transitioning from middle school to high school, private school to public school, high school to college, college to career, promotional and/or geographic transitions can result in challenges that require professional evaluation and diagnosis in order identify specific and targeted recommendations and accommodations. Rather than solely relying on subjective measures, we will review educational, medical, and psychological records and suggest objective measures that can nuance and facilitate differential diagnoses.

To identify strengths and areas for improvement. All individuals have areas in which they excel and areas in which they may need additional supports. Determining those areas via intellectual, academic, achievement, psychological, neuropsychological (e.g., executive function, cognitive flexibility, ADHD, etc...), personality, career, vocational and other types of assessment, testing and evaluation can assist in determining the best trajectory and approach to maximize desired outcomes.

To help attorneys conceptualize the underlying challenges that effect their clients. Identification of current cognitive, psychological/psychopathological and behavioral functioning, along with the evaluation of recidivism risk and rehabilitation potential, including the determination of whether the client exhibits a criminal mind-set (proactive vs reactive) serves to inform strategic planning and implementation.
